Overview of Amnesia:

Amnesia is a total or partial loss of memory. It occurs when a person loses the ability to remember events and information they would normally be able to recall. It can occur to a memory that happened minutes ago or a memorable event in the past. Memory loss could start suddenly or progress over time.

  1. Keep pencil and pad with you to write down any thoughts throughout the day
  2. Make a routine & stick to it
  3. Have a friend remind you of any important events (meals, appointments, medication)
  4. Use a calendar daily
  5. Keep items in a constant place & do activities in the same order

Treatments?

Many forms of amnesia fix themselves without being treated. If not, there are a few ways to treat for memory loss. Cognitive therapy is a successful way in which the person is taught memory skills and the therapist tries to help them regain some memories they have lost by using techniques to retrieve memories.
